I wonder where this Public/Private pension arguments first started. Public salaries have for many years been well below those in the private sector, and I have many friends working in the private areas who untill a couple of years ago had expectations of pensions well in line with the public ones but their companies have by one means or another changed their terms. If the government would only pass a law to the effect that if a company gives a pension it must apply pro-rata from the directors down to the cleaners, the private sector pensions would right them selves. We also had the problem of high differentials in salary when the high earners were paying nineteen and sixpence in the pound income tax, when this was reduced to 40% they all felt that they were earning these high rates, now unfortunately in politics all parties have their feet in the trough so it won't change |
