It is possible to express disapproval of comments by right wing Israeli ministers who advocate that the people of Gaza should emigrate without invoking Nazi Germany. The use of a term like 'lebensraum' is uncalled for. The examples of antisemitism given by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, whose definitions are accepted by the UK and the EU, include 'drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis'. The only group who can fairly be compared with the Nazis is Hamas, whose Charter (1988) explicitly calls for the extermination of the Jewish population of Israel. The Hamas leadership are currently hiding in the tunnels, so it is not unreasonable to ask why they haven't allowed some of the most vulnerable civilians, for example young children, to take refuge there as well. |
