These attempts by Israel supporters to diss the figures for the dead as some supposed Hamas invention are increasingly desperate. Theres an analysis of the figures on the AP site here: https://apnews.com/article/israel-hamas-war-gaza-health-ministry-health-death-toll-59470820308b31f1faf73c703400b033 But to save you the effort, here is an extract: ___________________________________ The United Nations and other international institutions and experts, as well as Palestinian authorities in the West Bank — rivals of Hamas — say the Gaza ministry has long made a good-faith effort to account for the dead under the most difficult conditions. “The numbers may not be perfectly accurate on a minute-to-minute basis,” said Michael Ryan, of the World Health Organization’s Health Emergencies Program. “But they largely reflect the level of death and injury.” In previous wars, the ministry’s counts have held up to U.N. scrutiny, independent investigations and even Israel’s tallies. ___________________________________ Whatever, you do agree that "there has been enormous loss of life among the civilian population." I have two questions for you following on from this: 1. In Israel's understandable attempt to eliminate Hamas, how many more civilian deaths do you think it appropriate to countenance? and 2. When (if) Israel has eliminated Hamas, what then, In particular what do you suppose can happen for the civilians who are left? |
