Hello Lucille - good to hear from you again! What happened on 7 October was obviously terrible but has happened whereas the bombing is continuing to happen now and is also a danger to those hostages who are still alive and being held. I'm not surprised that Israel is doing this but it is in danger of creating greater radicalisation not only of the youngsters whose immediate families are being decimated but of the many more dispossessed Palestinians in all the surrounding countries. So many were displaced in the Nakba and there are an awful lot of refugee camps! Their fate of those in Israel is now becoming not unlike that of the Jews themselves especially as it is now continuing in what seems to be an untargeted and collective punishment of a nation. There was Israeli extremism involved in creating a Jewish State which not all Jews were in favour of since it was a initially to be a home for Jews. The photo of the Balfour Declaration and the notes on Wikipedia give more background. There were people of many different religions. There seems to be a lot of difference of opinion over what Zionism is. There was also the bombing of the King David Hotel in which many British people died. I agree with you that both the Israelis and the Palestinians need leaders who desire peace rather than violence. But are they all getting that choice? |
