Mr Carter The deaths you describe are a terrible consequence of Israel fighting for its survival against an Islamist group which wishes to destroy it and its citizens. And I doubt that Israel is deliberately picking out women and children to kill (as was the case on 7th October when Hamas invaded Israel) but more caused by Hamas imbedding itself amongst the civilian population. Do you not agree that the quickest way to stop the killing is for Hamas to say - 1) 'We reject our Charter which 'defines the struggle to be against the Jews and calls for the eventual creation of an Islamic state in all of former Mandatory Palestine, and the obliteration or dissolution of Israel'. (Wikipedia). 2) 'Israel has the right to exist in the territory allotted to it in 1947, when the UN adopted a partition plan for a two-state solution in the remaining territory of the British mandate, a plan accepted by the Jewish leadership but rejected by the Arab leaders, and thus which Britain refused to implement'. On the eve of final British withdrawal, the Jewish Agency for Israel, headed by David Ben-Gurion, declared the establishment of the State of Israel according to the proposed UN plan. The Arab Higher Committee did not declare a state of its own and instead, together with Transjordan, Egypt, and the other members of the Arab League of the time, commenced military action resulting in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. |
