| The stupid comments by Smotrich and Gvir, which have rightly been condemned, do not represent the policy of the Israeli government. They have been brought up because, where Israel is concerned, righteous indignation is ever present while sympathy is in short supply. To answer your question, Robert, the Egyptians have not opened their borders because they don't want Hamas sympathisers, let alone Hamas terrorists, in their country. They have enough Islamists of their own eg the Muslim Brotherhood. Perhaps a more pertinent question might be why Hamas have not allowed the civilian population of Gaza to seek refuge in the tunnels. Or are these just reserved for Hamas and their hostages? |
