If you look at my post in context, I was replying to the previous post that was complaining about paying for Wimbledon Common. I said... "It's worth pointing out that we're not just paying for the upkeep of Wimbledon Common. We are paying for the upkeep of Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath, Putney Common, the Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields, a bit of scrub land at Stag Lane that the Conservators paid several £k in their shabby deal with Wandsworth. And the Windmill, tea rooms, a golf course, various ponds, footpaths, war memorials, stables, tennis courts, bowling greens and a certain golf club's private car park. Not forgetting that we also fork out for Christmas Parties and Summer BBQ's for the Charity Trustees and their mates, some £22,000, over the past 3 years." The point was that there is more to the commons than Wimbledon, and the commons included a golf course, which however way you look at it, is owned and funded by levy payers. The day to day maintenance may fall to the clubs, but the overall financial burden for the commons, fall on levy payers. I'm sorry if you are confused. |
