Jonty: the road to the flats, which runs alongside the school, is all on Common land. Why? Because the 0.5 hectare site owned by the Council is fully occupied by the school building and flats, no room for the necessary access road/s on their own land. There were narrow access roads at the front delineated on the plans attached to the 1871 Act, and a path to the cottages at the back. These were not sufficient for the development, and had in any event been taken over by the WPCC at a later date. Nick |
