| I sincerely hope that TfL has looked at these plans in great detail, especially in the context of strangers to the area, diverted up West Hill [A3] and using a satnav.? Once diverted up West Hill, coming from Wandsworth, the first available turning to the right is Portinscale Road, at the traffic lights, where presumably the satnav will urge the driver to turn right. That ultimately will lead to disaster, because once down the bottom of Keswick Road, the vehicle will have to turn right yet again, once more heading back towards Wandsworth. To turn right into Portinscale Road from West Hill will block all traffic behind, as the road is narrow; the intersection of Portinscale Road with Keswick Road has a bizarre set of priorities, not at all what you might expect; and if you turn left there back on to West Hill, it is virtually impossible to turn right again to regain your original route because of the volume of traffic. The second available turning right is Lytton Grove, should the satnav tell you so. At least it is marginally easier than the previous right off the A3. Once again speed humps abound; a utility company has a huge pile of earth in the road near the little shop; parents crowd the road in the middle of the afternoon, picking up their children from Putney High School; and finally there is a difficult right turn to go down Putney Hill. Ban these two right turns? There would certainly be an outcry from those living locally in the case of Lytton Grove; Portinscale would be less contentious. Then there are going to be larger queues building up down Putney Hill, with the temptation to take a short cut down Chartfield Avenue, and right into Gwendolen Avenue, before rejoining the URR towards Richmond. Or Cambalt Road and into Gwendolen. I suspect that for those living in the triangle between Putney Hill, the URR and West Hill, the quickest route home from the east is going to be Putney Bridge Road from Wandsworth, and a few back streets into the High Street. Yuck |
