Here is the latest news delivered by TfL managers late this afternoon:- "Southern Gas Network (SGN) Works In light of all the different works taking place by a number of utility companies in the immediate area, we have decided that a new start date of Wednesday 7th October for the SGN works would be appropriate. By starting the works at the earliest practical date possible, this will help to ensure that the works are finished as early as possible in the run up to Christmas; as clearly we don’t wish to have avoidable utility works on the road during the busy festive period. This new date will also allow SGN sufficient time to undertake the necessary engagement before their works commence. Diversion for local traffic The SGN works will be taking place on the westbound lane of Upper Richmond Road between East Putney Station and Putney Hill, meaning that eastbound traffic will still be maintained. We’ve agreed with Wandsworth council that while the diversion route will be signposted from the junction with West Hill, access will still be provided for local traffic requiring access up to East Putney Station. This is to try and mitigate against heavy localised congestion on Keswick Road. The diversion route will therefore run south along West Hill to Tibbet’s Corner roundabout, north up Putney Hill and then resume west along Upper Richmond Road again. Engagement with local Stakeholders We have worked with SGN to produce a letter which they will send to local residents, businesses and key stakeholders; and they should begin sending these by tomorrow. Their letter will set out the nature of the works, the new start date, the likely duration, the recommended diversion route and their contact details. They will also include a far wider audience this time to ensure that stakeholders are fully informed. I hope this helps to clarify the current situation regarding the Upper Richmond Road utility works. While we appreciate that local residents and businesses don’t always like the disruption caused by utility company works, we also recognise that these are needed to ensure that the utility networks are operating efficiently. TfL will therefore ensure that the right balance can be struck where possible to ensure that these essential maintenance works are undertaken with the required mitigation measures in place to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum and managed in the most appropriate way." |
