| The surrounding roads are going to be badly hit by people trying to avoid Upper Richmond Road. On Friday pm rat running in some residential side streets was so bad that residents were struggling to get their cars out of the streets in which they live. Most of the residential sides streets can only accommodate single file traffic due to parking on both sides. When the volume of rat running is such that no cars can go in the other direction you do get blockages if not gridlock. NB this is not just for 12 weeks. Over a period of up to a year work will continue from West Hill to Dryburgh Road in sections. I wonder if temporary alternate one way streets might help. I witnessed a level of road rage I have never previously seen in our residential side streets on Friday afternoon and that is before the work has even started - as cars poured down a side street uninterrupted with trapped residents and those who had been willing to give way for a 5 minutes finding it impossible to get out. We are going to see this on very many surrounding roads as people seek alternatives to gridlock on Upper Richmond Road. |
