In my contribution to this thread on 8th May (a couple of weeks ago) I wondered what might now be done given the very unfortunate news that the two threatened post offices in Thamesfield Ward are to be closed. I suggested that a new service might be arranged, in a more central location, to provide a replacement facility. One such possibility, I suggested, could be Sally's Cafe at St Mary's Church, by Putney Bridge. "One medium latte and two first class stamps, please, Sally", I could imagine people saying! So, it's good to read the front page story on this week's Wandsworth Borough News which announces 'Post office could open at Putney church'. The Vicar and Justine Greening have picked up my suggestion and are running with it, I am delighted to see. Let's all wish this proposition every success. Where Essex Council led on this issue, our borough council has been willing to follow, fortuately. |
