It is good to know that Wandsworth Council's Leader, Cllr Edward Lister, has recently met the Leader of Essex County Council, Lord Hanningfield. They were photographed together at the Palace of Westminster - see the top story on this newsletter's opening page. Cllr Lister will, no doubt, have taken the opportunity to discuss with Lord Hanningfield the initiative Essex County Council is taking to seek to save the post offices in his council area which are threatened with closure. The positive comments made by Cllr Maurice Heaster in the Wandsworth Borough News this week - about Wandsworth Council being willing to consider taking positive steps to keep our local post office services available, even if Post Office Ltd announces, finally, that some closures must take place, may well have been prompted by Cllr Lister's meeting with Lord Hanningfield. It is all very encouraging. |
