So, it has now been announced that our two local post offices, in the Lower Richmond Road and Putney Bridge Road are, after all, to be closed down, This, despite all the efforts of the local community to show how vital the services offered by these two post offices are to people in Putney. What's going to happen now, we will all be asking? Will Councillor Maurice Heaster, who replied in such positive terms at the public meeting held on this issue in St Mary's Church, when asked if our council would consider doing what Essex Council has agreed to do (to ensure that post office services can, to a degree, be maintained), now come forward with proposals to enable us in Putney to have a continuation of service? Perhaps a service might be offered as an addition to the excellent facilities at Sally's cafe at St Mary's? Or, maybe, the Police shop, next to the Odeon, could be persuaded to widen the scope of its service to the public? I am sure that we will all be interested to hear what Councillor Heaster is now proposing to do. |
