completely and utterly wrong. your definition of 'greed' was a conseqential effect, not the proximate cause. the cause was the police indcident in Tottenham, escalating to opportunistic violence, rioting and looting, arson and murder. when i went to school in the 70's and 80's the cane/slipper was being phased out. certainly at Granard, the headmaster, Mr Bridge, (and several other teachers such at Mr Gray and Miss Subaan),were so deeply respected by the puplils that discipline was hardly ever required due to the engagement of the pupils. in my opinon, many kids are not suited to formal education after about 15 years old - they're better off getting into the workplace at that age. the last govenment's obsession with degrees is not for everyone. look at dragons den, alan sugar, richard branson and john caudwell, etc all of whom do not have degrees but have the entrepeneurial spirit and the ability to drive an idea through. the government must see that one size doesn't fit all. |
