Gosh..well I was right about one thing...this topic really does bring out opinions. Simon, my very specific point about the students is that they have been lodgers and their landlords seem to think that because the students are "under my roof" and that they are the landlord they can make the tenant do anything they like. Some landlords should be evicted. It is getting rid of this power over tenants that is a major part of our history. I live in an ex-council house. I moved here with my ex-serviceman husband 35 years ago after moving in the service of this country 28 times. Then we could not get a mortgage. Everyone else could but not us. We were stuck living next door to the neighbours from hell. Then my ex-husband tried to kill me and my children several times to "protect" us. I had to get him out and I lived with police protection for several years whilst he got help. I did not incidently. The neighbours from hell were supposed to be evicted for harassing so many epople on this estate so please get that right, this is not a new law. THEY BOUGHT THEIR HOUSE AND SO COULD NOT BE EVICTED. Now tell me. why should one person be evicted for something that their neighbours cannot be evicted for. And please, can we keep this debate clean. do some of you really need to use language like scum, filth etc. I have been called "chav" so many times because I live on a council estate and all I did was serve this country for no pay, no uniform and no thanks. |
