Govindia was interviewed on the BBC last night, 2 points of note, eviction proceedings have been started despite the youth been charged but not yet found innocent or guilty. When asked if other evictions would follow, Govindia said he hoped this is the only one. (perhaps this case is so extreme an example is to be made, we will have to wait and see) With regard to people being punished twice - this happens to many people who have broken the law, e.g. a drunk driver who loses his license will often lose his job if he drives for a living, a prison sentence will often lead to an individual losing his job, an accountant fiddling his taxes will be thrown out of the profession, the list goes on. Generally a criminal conviction will cause problems for many people long after the initial consequences. In the case of a rioter, it doesn't seem unreasonable for an eviction to follow, as was sid on TV, these people have attacked the fabric of the society they live in, they have damaged and destroyed numerous businesses, and last but not least, they have burnt down scores of homes with no regard for the safety of the men women and children in those homes...to hell with them. |
