| Of course it has to do with greed in both cases Ian. Why else would looters take high value items that they knew could be sold on for a profit? Similarly there are 'greedy' bankers and other profiteers in the City too, why else would they want to work such long hours to earn huge bonuses? In any case how can a generation or more (whether feral teenagers or lying politicians etc) have been brought up not to know wrong from right? And I include anyone who knowingly steals from others. Being brought up in the 50s/60s there was discipline in schools - I remember being caned on the hand while in primary school for some misdemeanor :-) It hurt and I behaved afterwards, most of the time! It is criminal that teachers today have their hands bound (excuse pun) and have no means of disciplining children because of fear of parental reprisal. |
