Sue, I agree with you absolutely about giving ex-servicemen & women preferential allocation of social housing however, when you say "wake up...before it is too late", don't you think we crossed that point many years ago? I don't think you are aware of the feelings or the deliberations that the magistrates who are meeting out the sentences are going through. The sentencing constraints that are dictated to them have increased over decades. They have very little room to manouvre these days. It is only the more serious cases that can be referred to the higher courts where punishmets are more severe. I don't believe any of those cases will have been heard yet. The pound of flesh will come in good time. One other thing that struck me in all this is that of those who have been through the courts, 75% were from outside the locality where the crime was committed. Not an overwhelming case for local justice is it? I'll bet you a pound to a penny that someone will challenge any WBC ruling that their eviction was unlawful under The Human Rights Act and win! Who will pay the huge legal costs? You and the rest of us. Furthermore, the costs of temporary accomodation for the evicted family would fall on us, the taxpayer. As I said, politically, we crossed the point of no return many years ago. Sold Out! |
