I couldn't agree more. The term cushion is defined in Chambers dictionary as " a case filled with some soft, elastic stuff for resting on". The rigid, potentially damaging, humps in the road are the antithesis of a cushion. An enlightened local authority in the north of England  monitored the accident statistics after the introduction of speed bumps and found that they made matters worse so the speed bumps were removed. I have contacted Transport for London (motto "Bringing London to a standstill") on several of the changes they have made and have received the usual governmental gobbledegook plus an attempt to blind me with science on the subject of traffic simulation. When I asked pertinent questions on the simulation (I happen to know a little on that subject) I did not receive the courtesy of a reply. What chance that they or WBC will ever see the light on speed bumps.
