| No one is suggesting a blanket 20mph ban, Simon: just on roads where there are many pedestrians, the the Lower Richmond Road surely qualifies under that - and not because some pedestrians are "so damned stupid" but because they are vulnerable. And remember that your chance of being killed on being hit by a vehicle travelling at 20 mph is 1 in 40, whilst at 30 mph it's 1 in 5. And the point of a car being "to get from A to B in the shortest time possible?" I can see that that attitude leads to any restrictions being "frustrating," but I was trying to make a wider point: what is so important about people's journeys that they have to get somewhere faster when it risks other people's lives? Finally, your suggestion that global warming is negated by the fact that it's winter now, you're joking. Aren't you? |
