I think that 20mph limits on side roads such as yours Richard are a very good idea as some pedestrians are just so damn stupid that they need to be saved from themselves. That said I wouldn't favour a blanket 20mph limit in Wandsworth because roads such as Roehampton Lane and URR whilst technically residential are all but deserted after midnight and a 20 limit would be frustrating at best (during the day with normal traffic 20 would be a good average on these roads anyway). I think your time and motion comment is all very well and assuming your stats are correct you could say that if I drive at 20mph I'll get there a mere 30 seconds slower therefore if I drive at 10mph I'll get there a mere minute slower. The whole point in having a car is to get from A to B in the shortest time possible otherwise we may as well walk everywhere. As for global warming: Have you stepped outside this morning? |
