| Steven, so you have pigeonholed me as a member of the “metropolitan elite”! Not sure I quite deserve this accolade especially as I’m not sure what membership entails. I’d settle for centrist dad even though that is also used negatively by “bien pensant” rightwingers (have I got that right?) Some of my northern relatives voted for Brexit and some but not all now regret doing so. Especially the one whose import-export business came to an end thanks to a massive increase in paperwork and attendant costs. I don’t have much more to add to the Brexit debate. I would just point out that some folk have changed their minds and I see a recent poll of polls puts opinion at 59% in favour of rejoining and 41% against. I don’t know who was asked but it’s supposed to be a nationwide view. Make of that what you will. That 59% can’t all be members of the metropolitan elite, can they? |
