That's an interesting point, Robert. I think the vetting per se did work - it said Mandelson was a too high risk candidate for the position. It was the decision to ignore/block that result which was the problem. Interestingly, most organisations use a RAG status for assessing risks. I always wanted to make it a BRAG status with the 'B' for "black flag". STOP! You mustn't to it - it's illegal or you'll "kill" the organisation (borrowed from motor racing's flag sytem). Mandelson's appointment should have been black flagged. |
