Mr Hawkes. Did I say I'd *never* been to a football match? I doubt it, as that would be incorrect. I have been to three: one in Newcastle when I was with friends, once at Wembley (I think got a spare ticket a friend had) and another time to see "soccer" in Vancouver with friends. I used to watch it on television with flatmates - and I've also been to the old Fulham ground but to watch Rugby League with friends from "up north". And several decades ago I hosted cup final "pork pie and beer" afternoons for friends to watch cup finals on TV - a long time beforeI was veggie or vegan! But I just lost interest ... and if there's no racism why are there so many campaigns/organisations against it? Perhaps it was also stories of hooligans that friends relayed back to me that also put me off? I wouldn't want to give you the impression I'm anti football; I'm not, as a number of my friends follow it (they' re certainly not racist!), others don't. If you enjoy football and following Fulham I'm pleased for you. Several of my Putney friends support Fulham and other friends enjoy supporting Chelsea, Wigan, Middlesbrough ... and if you want to laugh, in the days when I followed football, I supported Tottenham (I lived near there in my very early years) ... and I sort of hope they don't get relegated from the Premier League :-) But over they years, I found motor racing more interesting. (Perhaps because my father was a motor mechanic?) |
