| Around 30 Green candidates have made anti-Semitic remarks, two of whom have actually been arrested. Does that prove that the Greens are a party of racists? Not by itself. It depends on whether the leadership is prepared to censure racist behaviour and expel offenders. Unfortunately the leadership of the Green Party has shown no appetite to discipline anti-Semites among the members because they share their views. Zack Polanski has refused to condemn anti-Zionism, which is the modern form of anti-Semitism, while his deputy, Mothin Ali, hailed the massacre of October 7 as an act of Palestinian resistance. So before passing judgment on Reform we should wait to see what action is taken by the leadership against those candidates who have brought the party into disrepute by racist comments. |
