Well said Judith. Like most I would welcome less noise. However, as far as aircraft noise is concerned I am off the opinion that although flight frequency may have increased the noise emitted from each flight is significantly less than when I first moved to Putney. We no longer (sadly) have Concorde or the old Trident and Tristar jets as these have been replaced with far quieter aircraft/engines. Also for the record and contrary to what some say, I am not a liar. I liive at the western most extremity of Putney and our house is immediately below the Southern runway flight path. My wife has live most of her adult life in Putney and she also remembers when conversation had to stop when a plane flew over, but this certainly isn't the case now. I should mention that our house is typical of those in West Putney with single glazed sash windows and no additional sound proofing (incidentally neither my wife or I have hearing problems). Mention has been made that if Heathrow was re-located that Putney prices would increase, really!!! I am sure that part of the attraction of living in Putney is it close proximity to Heathrow and Gatwick. Take Heathrow away and prices may even fall, but perhaps that is another another debate. |
