I would say there is increased plane noise. It's not that the planes are louder, I think they're more frequent. I moved to West Putney (from East Putney) a year ago and far from getting used to the noise, I'm finding it more intrusive lately. For the 3 months leading up to buying our property I "stalked" our new area, visiting almost daily at different times to see what the traffic and plane noise was like, as a friend of mine had recently moved from Howards Lane complaining about the plane noise. I didn't find it bad and thought I'd easily cope with intermittent planes. As I sit here now, there is a near constant rumble of planes and this is due to two streams of plane traffic. One stream is currently flying over the front of the property with the other flying over the back. The streams are staggered so you end up having a plane flying overhead almost all the time. When the flight paths move, I can see both streams flying over the back of the property, with one of them far enough away so as not to cause a nuisance (to me at least). That said, some days we don't have any planes flying overhead. I first noticed how frequent the planes were when my daughter learnt to speak and got excited every time she saw a plane and would point it out to me. Walking along Howards Lane or Hazlewell Road with a small child means they're saying "look there's a plane, and another one, and another one...." It's almost as irritating as the plane noise! I'm not complaining about the noise, it's a part of living here, I know that. I'm only making the comment because I felt I had done my research before moving here, so the "you knew what it would be like" comment doesn't apply. On the positive side, it makes me appreciate the silence even more. It is blissful when the noise stops. |
