We chose to live in Putney in 1980 as it was a great place to bring up a family and at the time property prices were good value for an area so close to central London and Richmond Park. We've always had planes over head, including the wonderful Concorde - my kids and I also used to stand outside in the garden and watch it - you couldn't hear yourself think then but at least it was for a very short time and not a constant problem as it has been for the past few years. There may well be a need for another London runway but it doesn't have to be Heathrow. Okay so I'm being a NIMBY but we do need some break from the noise of the planes and having another runway built on our doorstep will just exacerbate the problem further. Incidentally I understand that the noise is worse even Richmond and Kew, let's not even talk about Hounslow. Hope fully Justine will not forget where her loyalties lie now that she is Transport Minister. |
