You're right to point out internet shopping as being a contributory factor for the decline of footfall on High Streets (there are of course exceptions). So it follows that if PHS wants to thrive it must surely start with attracting quality shops in order to attract out-of-towners (a la Kingston), many of who (like it or not) do prefer to drive rather than rely on the vagaries of public transport. People drive and they need to park. Easily and cheaply. I've already said that I applaud David's sentiments but I can't see how aesthetics apart it will benefit the immediate locals who despite PHS's dire polluted shopping go there anyway. It'll be High Street Ken but without the shops. Would that encourage more non-Putney footfall?...I don't think so. And all at huge cost. Any who pays? |
