| Nicholas The Putney Society has no ideological commitment to any particular line. We are a charity and a very broad church, so broad in fact that the only thing we could agree about on David Irwin's proposal was to give him the opportunity to bring it to a wider audience. This we have done in the spirit of fostering a debate on what what can be done about the High Street. This debate is now well underway with some very good, as well as less good, ideas being mooted. Personally, I think it is just about impossible to reconcile the needs of a major through road with the needs of a local shopping street. And I don't envy the councillors who will have to make the decisions! |
