I think it's a fantastic idea, doing up Putney High Street, and making it more pleasant for us residents. But, if I'm honest, I think there's zero chance of this happening in the next 10 years. There's no way the Council is going to spend money ripping up the pavements when it isn't that long since they redid them. And as for resurfacing the road, and laying more paving to widen the pavements. It's not going to happen. The High St is an arterial route out of London. Detours via Oxford Road or other residential ones would create much division amongst residents. We're lucky. Look at Roehampton. Now THAT needs the regeneration it's getting. Wandsworth town centre is having a fortune spent on revamping it. The money won't come our way. But we can dream of a lovely high St, with trees, and single lane traffic, lower pollution levels, nice independent shops....... And the Putney Society does a fab job. Thanks for all your efforts with all you do. I went to a health meeting and something else you organised. Much appreciated I'm sure there must be other things we can do to brighten the place up that doesn't cost a lot of money. |
