Richard accused me of 'relying on anecdote not evidence'.

Two points here. Firstly the collected observations of lots of different people about the same thing is evidence. Individuals may have particular biases but if nearly everybody is saying the same thing then that counts for something.

Second point is that I wasn't just relying on observation. There is a wealth of data which confirms to people in Putney of the evidence of their own eyes. TfL publishes detailed information on average speed and delays on roads across London and these show a significant increase in Putney over pre-pandemic levels. Bus journey times on local routes have risen alarmingly.

As I said, the picture is complex and easy explanations are not available but by clinging to one piece of evidence (that  the number of vehicles crossing Putney Bridge is down) to claim that things haven't got worse since Hammersmith Bridge close and ignoring the wealth of other data, including the daily experience of people in the area, is a chronic misunderstanding of what is happening.

Would reopening Hammersmith Bridge cure our traffic problems? Nobody can say for sure and the councils reconfiguration of junctions is just one of a number of factors causing extra congestion that wouldn't go away so, even in the best case, things are not going to be ideal.
