| Richard, whatever the consequences of the reconfiguration of the junction at Putney Bridge, it is obvious that the closure of any bridge across the Thames (assuming that the same number of car drivers wish to cross the river each day) will increase congestion along the other bridges and approaches. How could it be otherwise? I am pretty sure that if Putney Bridge were closed to motor traffic for any reason, the same eco-protesters who have been demonstrating at Hammersmith Bridge would tell us that Putney Bridge was meant for pedestrians. And if Wandsworth Bridge became impassable as a result, they would assure us that it had nothing to do with the closure of Putney Bridge. |
