> Unfortunately, despite its best efforts, it has no way of doing so without causing civilian casualties. Of course there will be civilian casualties, it would be silly to expect otherwise. But the point of the case (and the increasing pressure being applied by more and more of Israel's Western allies) is the extent to which Israel have gone about this and the excessive levels of suffering they seem to be choosing to inflict on Gaza and Palestine. To put it bluntly; causing mass starvation by purposely restricting the flow of food/aid into a country is considered by many to be a form of genocide: https://time.com/6334409/is-whats-happening-gaza-genocide-experts/ Time (no pun intended) will tell whether any of the Israeli leadership will be convicted of this by a recognised and trusted court. In the mean time, presenting the same false dichotomies (either we do nothing and let Hamas rise up and destroy Israel, or we do exactly what we are doing to defend ourselves) over and over again is fallacious and cannot be used to justify all of Israel's actions. > Contributors sitting in the safety of Putney feel they can afford to condemn Israel because they are under no threat themselves. This works both ways, to this I would say: Contributors sitting in the safety of Putney feel they can afford to condone all of Israel's actions because they are under no threat themselves. |
