Hello Clare, I do not recall any statistics being produced on through traffic while Putney Bridge was closed. But it went through Wandsworth and Barnes. What I do remember are the gridlocks at times..... As for the traffic lights being synchronized on the bridge and the High Street is a subject that was discussed at length. I agree with you that synchronizing traffic lights would reduce congestion enormously, not necessarily its volume. However, since the system was computerized (cannot remember its name at the moment - SOOT or SCOOT?) things got worse, not better. Of course, computers can be highly efficient but it all depends on humans programming them properly.... |
