Jenny, I agree with you, but how would you solve the problems of PHS? The narrowness of the street cannot change unless you bulldoze buildings along the way which I think would not possible. The lack, or loss, of character of PHS is the responsibility of the planners who sadly did not consider the character of PHS, and still don't, but favoured, and continue to favour, tasteless shop fronts. The traffic, where would you divert it? Putney Hill/PHS is one of the two exit routes out of the A3. Create an underpass somewhere, build a new bridge? Barnes High Street is lovely, but it is bypassed by the A4. Wimbledon is also great as is Kingston but neither are final exits for A roads. Perhaps PHS should be bypassed by the A3 - but where would you create and place the bypass? By doing this, is it transferring the problem elsewhere as opposed to solving it completely? I really do not have the answers, at least not practical ones, to all of this. |
