Friday's Any Questions on Radio 4 kicked off with a question whether Amazon was ruining UK high streets. Germaine Greer was on the panel and declared herself an unrepentant online shopper. She said she had no transport, and the bus service was inadequate (no idea where she lives) Anyway, she said buses aren't safe. No idea why she's decided that. She said if she is on a high street she's bumped into and knocked over by people who walk along looking at their phones rather than where they are going. If she goes into shops she's driven out by the muzzak. (I often walk out of a shop because I can't stand the background noise.) I don't know if she was trying to be amusing, but she was making the point that sometimes shopping on the high street is not a pleasant experience. |
