"...the government should consider lowering business rates and increasing corporation tax, this would help fledgling & struggling businesses as well as increasing the tax burden on internet giants like amazon." Odd idea to increase the corporation tax, Adam unless small businesses are given a releif. An average small business has to rent a space, employ staff, pay business rates, collect and pay VAT, finance their stock acquisition, pay taxes and...try to make some profit to support his/her family. And then we expect the small business to flourish. No more taxes should be allowed on small businesses! I think online retailers should be taxed more to create a level playing field. And particularly giants like Amazon, who are indeed great contributors to the demise of the high street. Many people do not realise that having a bustling high street is indeed a valuable amenity. Therefore a slight inclease in the cost of online shopping for the sake of enjoying a vibrant high street should not be very painful. |
