| Steven, my point was only that Migration Control can find stats that suit their argument, while the stats are not at all clear and in places potentially misleading. Hence confirmation bias - they are able to find stats to suit their argument even if the full picture is much less clear and more complex. Maybe we all do it. So when you say around 10% of the population are foreigners but they commit around a third of all assaults I am not sure the stats actually prove that. First, how many foreigners are there living here, and what sort of foreigners are they? Secondly, are we talking about all assaults or male-on-female sexual assaults, of the sort that didn’t occur in Epsom but were loudly reported by the Mail and others? As a former magistrate I can say our court dealt with an awful lot of non-UK nationals, but we were in south London where an awful lot of non-UK nationals live, so drawing a firm conclusion is very difficult. To sum it up, be very careful with statistics, they can tell truths but they can be made to lie too! |
