"I'd be very happy if the whole of London had a 'no car Sunday' once or twice every summer." London is not "yours" to cripple and a consequence is probably to have made many people anti-cycling which is a shame. Do you know how much it cost tax payers and businesses? I doubt it was offset by money raised for charitable causes. The event was allowed following the "mob rides" through central London by anarchistic cyclists that brought about severe disruption, road rage and other undesirable consequences. Giving in to anarchy is not the answer. A proper race, by all means but not a repeat of last Sunday please. The lessons learnt are fairly obvious. On the whole they were predictable and avoidable. A serious re-think is required before planning for next year. |
