Can't comment on Singapore F1, but I can tell you how they cope with in Monaco for the F1 & F3 and Isle of Man TT. Two weeks before the race they start to build the Grandstands, etc and put the barriers up at night, without closing any roads. The roads are only closed on Thursday from about 10:00 am to 16:00, this allows people to get to and from work by car. The roads are opened all day on Friday and then closed Sat and Sun. But more importantly as you have to pay to see the race any locals are issued with a pass so they can walk around behind the barriers to get home/shops/etc. If you don't have a pass you are refused any form of access. Race ticket holders are directed to the nearest access point for the Grandstand. After the race is over - say 16:00 CET, it only takes them an hour or so to open the roads, the barriers are removed at night without any further road closures. They also have an Historic GP every two years! To be honest most locals arrange to go on holiday and rent out their apartments during the race weekends, like Putney and Wimbledon! IoM TT is even less disruption as they don't even bother with many road side barriers! But they do erect pedestrian foot bridges, so you can cross from one side of the road to the other, which might be an idea for Putney (could be sponsored locally). |
