The question is whether our Council executives are overpaid or MPs and ministers underpaid? How can a council employee, managing a budget of say £10M be worthy of more than a minister responsible for managing a budget of say £10Bn. There seems to be no corelation between the levels of responsibility and salary. The inferance is that some MPs have been "topping up" their income by abusing the expenses system because their pay is inadequate. If MPs were paid a salary comparable to other sectors of public service, I would like to believe this situation would not have arisen. With many private sector employees being asked to take a pay cut at this time, is it really acceptable that Mr Jones receive such a huge increase? As far as I can gather, his occupation is a non-productive one, managing the managers so how is his personal performance measurable other than by the efforts of others? |
