| My old Dad was a career Army officer and we were brought up in the 50/60/70s with the values of decency and working 'for the good of all'. You worked in the public sector because you wanted to do a good job, not to screw the system. Not pretending to be a sainted, it was just how it was. Very old fashioned now. The old idea of politicians being honorable and to be trusted has long gone, but Westminster continues to pretend that they are there for the sake of the country and the welfare of all. Sorry - don't buy it - the whole institution needs a drastic overhaul. They need to earn respect, not behave like they are above the rest of the nation. Well they've really blown it now. |
