Thank you Maxine for the links but I think it is important to explain what they are. The first is a petition against closing — and dividing — Dover House Road as proposed. The closure comes into effect tomorrow, Monday 31 August 2020. The one and only bus route that runs along it is allowed access (though cannot understand how it will reach either URR or Putney Heath if DHR is being closed off at Parkstead Road), I would assume emergency vehicles will be able to access the whole length of the road and surrounding streets. Not too sure about trade people trying to repair or refurbish properties along it though. The second link is for a consultation the Council is having on this matter from now till February 2021, I think. The whole way roads are being closed in London and other cities is total madness but I do not think it comes from the Council or the London Assembly, it comes for the Department for Transport. I say this because Bristol and Birmingham are also up in arms about the closure of roads. In Islington, the closures have been organized in such a way that emergency vehicles cannot access the closed roads! In Ealing, people are just toppling the planters that are closing the roads. It is total madness! While I do believe that measures must be taken to reduce the traffic in London, the closure of roads currently being implemented by a number of Councils is totally brainless. |
