Isn't it better that everyone pays more so that should they be unlucky enough to need a lot of care they can get it?  After all there are an awful lot of people who can afford and do already pay for the care services that the Councils provide and they receive. You have to if you have more than a certain amount of savings.  And that can include the amazing Reablement Services which are so valuable when you have been in hospital and need some help and support to get accustomed to being back home again. 

We have seen a 100 year old being delivered home in the middle of the night in winter without the neighbours being alerted and the heating being put on.  Like Martine I believe there should be more sheltered housing or accommodation with a warden which is available immediately for those well enough to be discharged from hospital to move into ie there is whatever technology is necessary (eg tel line) for a care line system already installed prior to discharge.

We should also think about whether our homes will still be suitable for us as we age or if we break a leg skiing. 

If we don't own our homes we can't sell them but that might cause us other problems.  Just look at the problems that many tenants are having getting house repairs done.  And if years have been spent as an unpaid live-in carer it can be even worse.
