Ivonne, thanks for your post.  I wasn’t disagreeing with you, as you seem to understand the reality of the situation.  I think some of the most hardest hit financially by care fees are the families who have bought their homes under Right To Buy.  Many people just don’t see it coming, it won’t happen to them, but the fact is, it does.  Paying upwards of £52,000 per year is a lot of money, if you are in a carehome for 10 years, it is at least half a million. Another bad thing about the system is how they judge who qualifies for free care, eg one person with dementia might get NHS free continuing care, yet another person with pretty much identical symptoms may end up paying full whack.   The system needs urgent attention and families are looking to Boris Johnson to keep his promises.
