I'm sorry to know that Lucille.  But it is logical if you think about it.  Memory is multi-sensory and what you see and hear and smell and touch helps you to remember something.  If you have been deaf for a long time you may have more acute other senses because you have been relying on them more. Hearing aids can be notoriously difficult to get used to - and be fiddly to put in and have fiddly tiny batteries.  Action on Hearing Loss used to try to have volunteers who would help and encourage people to keep on using them ie get used to them so that they did not end up consigned unused to a drawer.  FIL was blind and MIL deaf so there were some interesting conversations. I guess you rely a lot of subtitled TV. Or do you have your rooms wired so that you can hear?  At least you can read instructions!
