If only life was so simple, Bunny.  My days of being a carer are over as my mum has gone into a home, we do not pay care home fees, but I feel so sorry for those who do.  I am an only child as is my mother, there was no-one else.  Your idea takes no account of carers who might have jobs, children to look after and the type of problems encountered in caring, such as simple things like hoping that person doesn’t step outside their door in case they get locked out or are they able to switch on the tv that day, or the complexity of the illnesses physical or mental they might suffer. I couldn’t just go out, I had to make sure I as always about or someone else was.  There are things you just don’t think about until you become a carer.  In an ideal world my mum would have lived with us, but she has smoked for 70 years, and we don’t smoke I know other carers around Putney, we understand one another and the stress.
