The system is under siege because it is under funded and also short of staff willing to do such work. Both causes one can put down to Conservative Government policies over the last ten years or so. So the answer is to put up taxes to pay for what is required and recruit staff from wherever we can to do the work. Current policies don't look encouraging on both fronts if Boris' current pronouncements are anything to go by. On the other hand I am sure Mrs Guy, who I confess to making a perhaps erroneous assumption is a Conservative,  believes as did Mrs Thatcher that people should stand on their own two feet and look after their own. That means that if they have acquired assets and wealth, rather than their children looking forward to their benefits and having the rest of us pay for their care, these assets should be liquidated and the profits used to support them in later life.
